Through the Outside In Initiative, Elise brings nature-inspired murals to healthcare settings and public spaces, redefining art as a vital part of emotional wellbeing and recovery. Her carefully curated colour palettes and passion for bridging art and health are at the heart of her work, making a meaningful impact on lives and landscapes alike.
WHERE THE INITIATIVE WAS BORN
10 years ago, Elise spent months in a general hospital with a severe eating disorder. She noticed how often she would be staring at the bleak white walls and how isolated she felt- there was no connection to the outside world. After going on to study psychology and seeing the scientific benefits of green spaces and colours on mental health, she began a mission combining nature and art in the healthcare field. The Outside In Initiative is more than painting murals; it’s a movement to bring art and health together to increase a sense of connection, community and curiosity to the spaces that need it most.
Spaces matter- there is a profound impact an environment has on mental health and wellbeing. Having colour in spaces can transform not only how people feel but how we heal.
